Information about this module is generated with the help of AI. The description may be incomplete, inaccurate, or subject to change.

The TJA1050 CAN Module is a high speed CAN transceiver module for connecting a microcontroller with a CAN controller to a physical CAN bus. The module uses the TJA1050 to convert the CAN controller logical TXD and RXD signals into the differential CANH and CANL signals used on the CAN bus.

The TJA1050 uses differential signaling which provides good noise immunity and makes CAN suitable for vehicles, industrial automation, control systems and other applications where several devices need to communicate over the same bus.

When a dominant bit is transmitted, CANH is driven higher and CANL is driven lower. CANH can typically be around 3.5 V and CANL around 1.5 V, resulting in a differential voltage of approximately 2 V. During a recessive bit, CANH and CANL are approximately at the same voltage, normally around 2.5 V. In the CAN protocol, the dominant state represents logic 0 and the recessive state represents logic 1.

The dominant signaling allows CAN to use arbitration. If several nodes transmit at the same time, the node transmitting a dominant bit wins over a node transmitting a recessive bit. The node detecting this stops transmitting and tries again later.

The module provides connections for TXD, RXD, CANH and CANL. TXD is used for data from the CAN controller to the transceiver, while RXD is used for received data from the CAN bus to the CAN controller. CANH and CANL are connected to the external CAN bus.

The TJA1050 uses a 5 V supply but its logic signals are compatible with both 3.3 V and 5 V logic. The transceiver supports CAN communication at speeds up to 1 Mbit/s and can be used in CAN networks with multiple connected nodes.

The TJA1050 does not have built in CAN bus termination. A CAN bus normally requires a 120 ohm termination resistor at each physical end of the bus. On a module based system, a termination resistor may therefore need to be installed or connected depending on the position of the module in the network.
