The MAX471 Voltage Current Sensor is a module for measuring DC voltage and load current. The module uses a MAX471 current sensing circuit to measure current on the high side of the power supply. This allows current measurement without placing a sensing resistor in the ground connection.

The module also provides a separate voltage measurement using a resistive voltage divider. The voltage divider consists of a 30 kOhm resistor and a 7.5 kOhm resistor and reduces the input voltage to one fifth. The VT signal can therefore be connected to an analog input of a device such as an Arduino to measure the input voltage.

The MAX471 has an internal shunt resistor of approximately 35 mOhm and converts the measured load current into a current signal on OUT. The module has a 2.0 kOhm resistor connected between OUT and GND, which converts this current signal into a voltage. OUT therefore provides a voltage proportional to the load current at the module output. With a 2.0 kOhm resistor, the output is approximately 1 V per ampere.

The module can be used with microcontroller boards such as Arduino to monitor batteries, motors, DC loads and other electronic circuits.

When used with a 5 V analog input, the module is normally specified for an input voltage range of 3 to 25 V. For a 3.3 V system, the input voltage should be limited to approximately 16.5 V to keep VT within the 3.3 V analog input range.
