Information about this module is generated with the help of AI. The description may be incomplete, inaccurate, or subject to change.
The GY-50 is a module based on the L3G4200D, a digital 3-axis MEMS gyroscope that measures angular velocity around the X, Y and Z axes. The module is designed for accurate rotation sensing and is suitable for robotics, drones, balancing systems, navigation and many other motion control applications.
The sensor communicates through either I2C or SPI and offers selectable measurement ranges of plus or minus 250, 500 or 2000 degrees per second. The communication interface is selected using the CS pin. When CS is high, the sensor operates in I2C mode. When CS is low, it operates in SPI mode. In I2C mode, the SDO or SA0 pin selects the device address, either 0x68 or 0x69. In SPI mode, the same pin functions as the MISO output.
The L3G4200D is a MEMS gyroscope and does not contain a spinning mechanical rotor. Instead, it uses a microscopic vibrating mass that detects angular velocity through the Coriolis effect. This technology is widely used in smartphones, game controllers, camera stabilization systems and many other modern electronic devices.
The module features low power consumption, high sampling rates, an integrated FIFO buffer, programmable filters and interrupt outputs. It is suitable for Arduino, STM32, ESP32, Raspberry Pi and many other embedded platforms.
